FARMERVILLE — Madigan Stevens struck out seven of the eight batters she faced as Sterlington remained undefeated in District 2-3A play with a 13-4 road win over Union Parish on Tuesday afternoon.
Jada Thompson's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth drew Union within 5-4. Thompson was thrown out attempting to stretch her hit into a double for the first out, but Kiara Moore walked to put the tying run on base.
After Stevens was summoned to the circle, Union never put another ball in play. Moore was caught stealing on a strong throw from catcher Hannah Jerkins, and Stevens took care of the next seven outs herself. She walked Gracie Lagrone with two outs in the sixth before fanning the Lady Farmers' final four batters.
Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers put the game out of reach with three in the sixth and five in the seventh.
Sterlington went ahead 4-0 with an unearned run in the first and three in the second.
Emarie Adams pitched 4.1 innings for the win with Stevens nailing down the save.
Kaela Mullins knocked a solo home run in the second and singled to highlight the Lady Panthers' seven-hit outing. Rachel Wisecarver doubled and singled, and Adams, Stevens and Carly Wilson collected base hits.
Trinity Wallace, Moore and Cassandra Knighten doubled and Thompson singled for The U.
Alyssa Brantley went the distance in the circle for the Lady Farmers.
Records — Sterlington (9-7, 4-0); Union (4-5, 2-1).
