LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie fishing is improving with some fish being caught in the shallows while others are staging on the flats in 8-10 foot water Shiners and jigs are picking up some fish. Bass are starting to move up with spinners and chatter baits picking up some fish. Bream have just started to bit a bit on worms and crickets. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie fishing is best at night fishing around the lights using shiners or on yo-yos. Good catches continue to be made below the spillway on shiners and jigs. Some are being caught in deep water out from the spillway but this has slowed a bit indicating the fish are beginning to move. Bass are moving shallow with some in the 3-4 pound range caught on spinners and Brush Hawgs. Catfish are being caught on yo-yos baited with shiners. No bream or stripers reported this week. CANEY LAKE — Most of the crappie have been caught in staging areas between deep water and shallow spawning areas. Jigs and shiners are picking up some fish. Bass are beginning to show up on beds with Sinko lures picking up some in the 4-6 pound range while most are staging and have not yet moved shallow. Bream fishing has not yet kicked in; cool nights have them slowed a bit. No report on catfish this week. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie are just now beginning to move shallow with not many fish but some whoppers to 3 pounds caught on shiners and jigs. Fishing has been better in the afternoons. Bass are improving with some over 5 pounds caught on soft plastics. Catfishing is improving on cut shad, blood and cheese bait and night crawlers. LAKE BRUIN — Crappie are fair. A few bream were caught on worms. Bass are fair to good on soft plastics around the trees. Stripers continue to be good at night around the lights on crank baits.
