LAKE D’ARBONNE — The crappie bite is steadily picking up with some moving shallow and others caught around 12 feet deep on shiners or jigs. A few bream are starting to show up while catfishing continues to be good on cold worms fished off the banks. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie fishing is steadily improving with some fish still in the deep water out from the dam. Some are also being caught up the creeks on yo-yos baited with shiners while action below the spillway continues to be steady. Bass fishing has starting to improve slightly with best catches being made fairly shallow around the grass on spinners and soft plastics. No report this week on catfish, bream or stripers. CANEY LAKE — The crappie are on the move with some caught in deep water while some are showing up at mid-depths as they make their way to the shallows where spawning will begin to take place in a week or so, depending on weather and water temperatures. Both shiners and jigs are picking up some fish. Bass have been fair on deep diving crank baits and drop shot rigs. No report just yet on chinquapins or catfish. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie fishing has begun to improve with some real slabs reported with several over 3 pounds reported. Shiners and jigs are taking fish this week. Catfishing has improved on cut shad. No report on bass this week. For latest reports, call Poverty Point Marina at 318.878.0101.
LAKE ST. JOHN — High water has resulted in the lake being closed to boat traffic. However, a few crappie and catfish have been caught off piers. For information, call Ken Mahoney at (318.7570013).
LAKE YUCATAN — The water is still very high and will crest this week and begin a slow fall. Nobody is fishing. For information, call Surplus City Landing at 318.467.2259.
LAKE BRUIN — Crappie fishing has been fair with most caught on yo-yos baited with shiners. Bass are fair on Chatter baits early with soft plastics later. The water is fairly muddy from run-off from the rains which has hurt fishing. Stripers continue to be good at night around the lights on crank baits.
