LAKE D’ARBONNE — Despite the cold windy weather, some good catches of crappie are being made. Most are coming from the 20 foot flats fishing shiners or jigs 10-18 feet deep. Bass are trying to move shallow with a few to 6 pounds caught around the grass on soft plastics and Sinko lures. Bream have not yet started but if you can stand the cold, you can catch catfish on cold worms fished on the flats and off the banks. LAKE CLAIBORNE — One of the best ways anglers have been catching crappie this week is on yo-yos baited with shiners. A few are coming from the deep water out from the dam with best fishing continuing to be below the spillway on shiners and jigs. Bass fishing has starting to improve slightly with best catches being made fairly shallow around the grass on spinners and soft plastics. Some catfish are being caught on trotlines using chunks of soap for bait. No report on bream or stripers. For latest information, call Tim Loftin at Kel’s Cove at 927.2264.

CANEY LAKE — While some crappie are still biting jigs and shiners in deep water out from the dam, some are starting to move mid-range indicating when weather conditions permit, they’ll start moving to shallow coves to spawn. Bass are also starting to move shallow with a 10 pounder caught. Best lures are Chatter baits and Rat-L-Traps. No report just yet on chinquapins or catfish.
