Outlook for area anglers:

BLACK BAYOU — Crappie are starting to improve fishing shiners or jigs around the trees. Bass have been best fishing soft plastics around the grass mats. Contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707 for latest information.

LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie fishing has been good for some anglers this week. Robert Carlile and Craig Nichols from Oklahoma won the Crappie Master’s tourney last weekend with 14 fish averaging nearly 2 pounds apiece. Best fishing has been on the flats fishing jigs 12-14 feet deep with a few around the trees 8-10 feet deep. Bass are moving in around the grass and hitting craw-worms, tubes, spinners, Chatter baits and the weightless Sinko. Bream have yet to start but catfishing is good on cold worms. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The lake has been high with muddy water in the creeks and because of high water, only trolling motors could be used. However, the water has fallen to the point that outboard motors can now be used. Because of high water, very little fishing has been reported during the days except crappie are still biting below the spillway. Also, some nice stringers have been caught around the lights at night. CANEY LAKE — Bass fishing is improving with a 28 pound stringer topped by a 9 pound fish was taken during a weekend tournament. Best catches have been made on spinner baits fished around the grass. Crappie fishing has improved in deep water out from the dam with indications the fish are beginning to move into the channels headed for spawning areas. Shiners and jigs are picking up some really big fish in 10-12 foot water. No report just yet on chinquapins or catfish. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie are improving on shiners and jigs. Bass fishing is picking up a bit. Catfishing is good while no report on bream. For latest reports, call Poverty Point Marina at 318.878-0101.

LAKE ST. JOHN — The crappie are starting to move up to more shallow areas and fishing has improved. Bass are as well and catfishing is fair. For information, call Ken Mahoney at (318.757.0013).

LAKE BRUIN — Bass to 6-7 pounds have been caught this week on soft plastics, Chatter baits and spinners. Crappie and yellow bass are improving on jigs and shiners.
