Franklin Parish 11, Sterlington 4
Kaylee Martin went 4-for-5 with a grand slam home run as Franklin Parish upended Sterlington 11-4 Monday afternoon in the season softball opener for both teams.
Trailing 4-3, the Lady Patriots got the bats moving in the top of the fourth.
Consecutive singles by Carson King, Gracie King and Carlie Bankston loaded the bases with nobody out. Martin then deposited a grand slam over the center field fence to give FPHS its first lead, 7-4. Capping a six-run outburst, the Lady Patriots added two more runs on two walks, an error and Maggie Parker's RBI groundout.
Williams put a wrap on the scoring with a two-out, two-run bomb in the fifth. Martin, who singled, was aboard for Williams' blast.
Sterlington started the game on a promising note.
With one away, Chesnie Daigle walked and Hannah Jerkins singled. Both runners advanced on a double steal, setting the table for Carlee Canal's two-out, two-run single down the left field line.
FPHS tied the game 2-2 with a pair of unearned runs in the second.
KB Briley restored the Lady Panthers' lead with a two-run jolt over the center field fence in the home half of the second. Saniyah Owens walked prior to Briley's clout.
Katelyn Thrasher, who toiled the complete game win, would not allow another runner past second base until the seventh. FPHS had the game well in hand by then.
Williams drew a one-out walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch as the Lady Patriots drew within 4-3 in the third.
Martin keyed the Lady Patriots' 10-hit attack with a homer and three singles. Williams was 2-for-4 with a round tripper, a single and four runs scored, and Gracie King, Bankston, Kiara Clark and Carson King added base hits.
Jerkins went 3-for-4 with a stolen base to pace the Lady Panthers offensively. Rounding out the nine-hit output were Briley with a home run, and Daigle, Rachel Wisecarver, Canal, Madigan Stevens and Haynes with singles.
Emarie Adams was charged with the loss in the circle for the Lady Panthers with Stevens in relief.
