LAKE D’ARBONNE—The lake continues to be high with lots of current and fresh muddy water. Some crappie are being caught on the flats where there is less current with a few hitting jigs and shiners 10-12 feet deep in 15 foot water. The Stowe Creek area is producing fair crappie catches. Bass are in deeper holes and are slow to fair on jigs and soft plastics. Catfish are biting cold worms off the banks. For latest reports, call Anderson’s Sport Center at 368-9669 or Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323-8707.
LAKE CLAIBORNE—Too much fresh water has slowed the crappie bite out from the dam. Best bets for crappie are fishing the lights at night with shiners while some are still hanging around deeper tops and taking jigs or shiners. Some bass are biting Carolina-rigs but most of the fish are rather small. An occasional striper is being caught by crappie fishermen. No report on bream or catfish. For latest information, call Tim Loftin at Kel’s Cove at 927-2264.
CANEY LAKE—Quite a few anglers are trying the crappie in deep water out from the dam with a few caught on shiners. Some are reporting catching crappie in the deeper creeks on jigs or shiners. Bass have been slow to fair with an occasional catch to around 6 pounds made on red Rat-L-Traps. Some are bouncing jigging spoons off the bottom in deep water with a few yellow bass and largemouth bass being caught. No report on catfish or bream.
