Union Parish 47, Bastrop 39
RAYVILLE — Union Parish outscored Bastrop 17-9 in the third quarter on its way to a 47-39 decision over Bastrop, Thursday night in the Big E Classic at Rayville High School.
After the first quarter ended in a 7-7 draw, the Rams carried a 17-16 lead into halftime. Bastrop, however, could manage only one field goal in the third quarter while falling behind 33-25.
"Again, we played solid defense, but we can't get buckets when we need them," Bastrop coach Theabury Odom said. "It's not because of a lack of effort. People are packing it on us because they know we don't have any scorers. We are going to have to start hitting a few shots."
Picking it up somewhat offensively, the Rams played the Farmers on even terms, 14-14, in the final quarter. With Union sinking 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch, Bastrop was unable to gain any ground.
Bastrop was held under 40 points for the fourth time in the past five games.
"They'll grow into it," Odom said. "We just have to be patient, and it will happen."
Jalen Jones led a trio of Farmers in double figures with 18 points, followed by Corian Glosson with 12 and Dylan Harris with 11. Tyrone Wallace pitched in three, Jaylon Nunnley two and Aaron Jones one.
Lavonta Sylvester and Jordan Rabun carried the Rams offensively with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Semaj Tennant had five, Laborious Washington four, Datavion Hawkins three and Tony Hawkins two.
Union made 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) free throws while the Rams were 12-of-19 (63.1 percent).
