OUACHITA RIVER — The crappie have moved to the mouth of the creeks around stumps. Suspended 10-12 feet deep in 15-20 foot water. Shiners and Gum Drop and blue Pearl jigs are picking up some fish. LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie fishing is beginning to improve with better catches made in the channel fishing 18 feet deep in 20-10 foot water. Best jigs have been the Cajun Cricket, Popsicle and Blue Grass. Lots of folks are fishing around both bridges along Highway 33 and Highway 2. Bass fishing has been best around the grass up the creeks with spinners and crank baits working best. Bream are slow but catfishing is good on cold worms. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie fishing is good around sunken tops using shiners or jigs. Fishing late afternoons seems to be working better. Stripers, bream and catfish are fairly slow but the big story is the Tiger bass that were introduced to the lake this summer. They are about 8 inches long and very aggressive with two caught at the same time on occasion. They are being released but are fun to catch and offer an exciting future for this lake. CANEY LAKE — Bass are feeding on shad with some schooling activity still reported around the lake. Some bigger fish are being caught on deeper humps on soft plastics and deep diving crank baits with an 8.9-pounder reported last week. The crappie have moved deep with shiners outperforming jigs. Most of the fish are being caught fishing 12 feet deep in 20-25 foot water. No report on chinquapins or catfish this week.
