Prairie View 16, Union Christian 9
FARMERVILLE — Unleashing a 13-hit attack, Prairie View built a 13-1 fourth-inning lead en route to a 16-9 triumph over Union Christian on Tuesday evening.
Winners of four straight, the Lady Spartans evened their record at 4-4.
Prairie View took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Anna Grace White and Kayla Hawthorne started the game with back-to-back doubles. Chloe Halterman bunted Hawthorne to third and Elle Morgan lofted a sacrifice fly to left field.
Benefiting from four straight walks, the Lady Spartans added a run in the second.
UCA closed the gap to 3-1 in the home half of the second when Ashtyn Hodge singled and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Prairie View added a deuce in the third before landing the knockout punch with an eight-run fourth.
Hannah Billings walked with one down in the third, and Chloe Hobson grounded into a force play. Rachel Hankins then singled to left, setting up Madi Crymes' two-run single to right.
Prairie View's first eight batters reached in the marathon fourth as the visitors sent 13 batters to the box.
White walked and scored on consecutive singles by Hawthorne and Halterman. Morgan was safe on a misplay, Billings was hit by a pitch and Halterman walked. Up next, Hankins lashed an RBI single to center and Crymes collected her third and fourth RBIs with a two-run safety to right.
Back to the top of the lineup, White was hit by a pitch with one away to reload the bases.
One out later, Halterman chased two more runs across with a base hit to left.
UCA began to get untracked with four in the bottom of the fourth, but the damage had been done.
RBI singles by Goss and Hawthorne pushed the Lady Spartans' lead to 15-5 in the sixth.
Morgan singled and scored on the front end of a double steal in the sixth to wrap up the Prairie View scoring.
Eight different batters contributed to the Prairie View hitting. Hawthorne went 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs, Halterman, Hankins and Crymes had two singles apiece, White and Billings doubled and Morgan and Goss singled.
Bella Fulton went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to pace the Lady Lions' 10-hit production. Gracie Stokes and Kristina Scarborough doubled and singled, Desiree Pearson tripled and Emma Anders, Cally Pickel and Ashtyn Hodge singled.
Morgan allowed just one earned run (five total) through five innings for the win with Hankins finishing up.
Stokes was charged with the loss for UCA with Fulton in relief.
On deck for the Lady Spartans is a Thursday home double header vs. Glenbrook. Starting times are 4 p.m. for JV and 5:30 for varsity.

Anna Grace White slammed a two-run triple and a double as Prairie View won the JV game.
Prairie View also received a double and a single from Emma Goss, two singles from Chloe Halterman and base hits from Kayla Hawthorne, winning pitcher Avery Wellbrink and Lexie West.
