Rachel Hankins threw a four-hit shutout as the Prairie View Lady Spartans opened conference play with a 9-0 triumph over River Oaks on Monday afternoon.
Prairie View struck for a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second.
Hannah Billings singled with one away, and swiped second and third. With two down, Hankins walked and Madi Crymes was safe on an error.
Stringing together six straight two-out hits, the Lady Spartans broke the game open with five in the fifth.
Anna Grace White and Kayla Hawthorne started the outburst with back-to-back triples. Chloe Halterman singled Hawthorne across, Elle Morgan followed with another base hit and Billings walked to jam the basepaths. Next, Chloe Hobson ripped a two-run double to left. Billings later scored on a passed ball, bringing the score to 7-0.
Prairie View tacked on two more in the seventh.
Crymes led off with a base hit to left, Emma Goss walked, Hawthorne lashed a run-producing double and Halterman added an RBI groundout.
Hankins struck out five and walked five in the complete game effort.
Hawthorne paced the Lady Spartans' nine-hit output with a triple, a double and two RBIs, Hobson doubled and singled, White tripled and Halterman, Morgan, Billings and Crymes singled.
Prairie View (5-6) returns to the diamond Tuesday in Farmerville for a 4:30 p.m. JV/varsity double header against Union Christian. Resuming district play on Thursday, the Lady Spartans host Glenbrook in a 4 p.m. twinbill.

Kayla Hawthorne, Anna Grace White, Allie Culpepper and Lexie West singled as Prairie View ran its junior varsity record to 5-1.
Avery Wellbrink was the winning pitcher for the Lady Spartans.
