Sterlington Senior Q & A

Sterlington officially reported for preseason camp Monday morning, working out in shorts and helmets.

In their first preseason appearance, the Panthers host Cedar Creek in a Thursday, Aug. 16 scrimmage.

Seniors C.J. Colvin, Justin Fuller, Clay Vaughn and Landon Green spoke to the North Ouachita Weekly News following Monday's session.

Colvin returns at running back after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the 2017 season opener vs. West Ouachita.

Fuller, a defensive end, received All-District 2-3A second team accolades.

Vaughn, the 2017 Class 3A state runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles, plays wide receiver in addition to handling punting duties.

Green, a three-time All-District soccer player and a first-team All-District kicker, will play an expanded role for the Panthers this season. A converted wide receiver, Green is also playing cornerback and safety.

NOWN: What was the most fun part of your summer?

C.J. Colvin: I went to Moon Lake and played some volleyball, and went to the park with my family and played football.

Justin Fuller: I hung out with my family, and went to camp at Southern Miss. I worked out with the linebackers and defensive ends. I learned a lot, so it was a good camp.

Clay Vaughn: We had church camp at the beach in Panama City.

Landon Green: I didn't go anywhere. I played in some soccer tournaments, and just worked out because I'm fighting hard for my position. I am playing some cornerback, and sometimes free safety besides kicking and being the backup punter. I played some wide receiver last year, so defense is fairly new for me.

NOWN: What is the biggest improvement we can expect to see in your individual game this season?

Colvin: That I'm back from the injury I had last season.

Fuller: I'm faster, more versatile and more determined. After we came up short last year, I'm hungrier.

Vaughn: I'm more focused. I'm working on my routes and hands, trying to do what I can for everybody else. I want to help everybody else, any way I can.

Green: Most people have just seem me kick the ball through the uprights. This year I am going to be out on the field a lot more. Hopefully, I can make an impact on both sides of the field, offensively and defesnively.

NOWN: Which teammate is going to be the biggest surprise this season?

Colvin: Tyler Kaffenburger. He's gotten bigger and faster, and is going to help us out a lot.

Fuller: Hayes Crockett because he has a big role to fill. He has a chip on his shoulder because he has to prove that he's ready for 3A after coming from Prairie View.

Vaughn: Brody Green played a little last year. He has stepped up this year and is fighting for the starting quarterback spot.

Green: Our running backs. We didn't get to see much of C.J. Colvin and Malik Davis because they got hurt in Week 1. Dallas Reagor came out of nowhere last year, and I feel like he's going to be even better this year. We have three good running backs.

NOWN: Which game are you most looking forward to?

Colvin: West Ouachita because that's the one that took me out last year. I have to get that redemption.

Fuller: All of them. This is my senior year, so I want to win them all.

Vaughn: OCS. They beat us bad the last time we went over there, and we can't let that happen again. Two years ago, they beat us 35-0 at their place, and we beat them 35-0 last year at our place. This is the last time for our senior class to play there, so we are looking for redemption.

Green: Richwood. We beat them in the regular season last year, then they beat us in the playoffs. Even though we've only played them twice, it's already turned into a rivalry.
