Glenbrook 6, Prairie View 3
MINDEN — Nick Mourad pitched four innings of one-hit relief as Glenbrook won a 6-3 decision over Prairie View on Monday night.
Prairie View started off on a positive note, scoring two runs in the top of the first after the first two batters went down in order.
Blake Ray walked and Tanner Caldwell bashed an opposite-field triple to right. Following a walk to Hayes Crockett, Mason Rogers' RBI double to left upped the Spartans' lead to 2-0.
That was all the Spartans (10-3, 3-1) would get until the sixth.
By then, the Apaches had pushed across six unanswered runs.
Peyton Wells was hit by a pitch and circled the bases when Parker Christy reached on an error in the first to bring Glenbrook within 2-1.
Jackson Powell singled to open the fourth and scampered to third on Jonathan Parkerson's double. Batting next, Maddox Mandino tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field. Ryan Sheets, batting from the No. 9 spot, singled home the go-ahead marker.
Glenbrook widened the spread to 6-2 with three in the fifth.
Christy led off with a base hit. All three runs scored with two outs on a hit batsman (Powell), and RBI singles by Parkerson and Mandino.
Tyler Peters circled the bases on errors with one out in the sixth to put a wrap on the scoring.
Mourad worked a 1-2-3 seventh to cement the victory. Summoned to the mound to start the fourth, Mourad allowed one unearned run while striking out eight and walking two. Powell drew the start for the Apaches before giving way to Cade Clemons.
Parkerson doubled and singled and Christy, Mourad, Powell, Mandino and Sheets singled as the Apaches out-hit the Spartans 7-4.
Three of Prairie View's hits went for extra bases. Caldwell had the three-bagger, Rogers and Cade Murphy doubled and Layton Rainbolt singled.
Caldwell worked four innings in taking the loss. Rogers and Jacob Farrar also saw time on the mound.
Prairie View hosts the Apaches on Friday in a 4 p.m. double header to concluding the three-game series.
