Evangel 5, Sterlington 3

Taylor Mayo went 3-for-4 and socked solo home runs in the sixth and seventh innings as Evangel battled back for a 5-3 win over Sterlington on Monday afternoon.

Trailing 3-1 after three, the Lady Eagles began to chip away in the fourth when Taylor Mayo led off with a base hit up the middle and later scored on Leanna Cooper's sacrifice fly.

Two innings later, Taylor Mayo's leadoff home run over the center field fence tied the game 3-3.

With one away, Cooper singled, stole second and third and trotted home with the go-ahead run off of an error.

Carson Lyon doubled and Amber Parnell was safe on a two-base error, placing runners at second and third with one out in the Sterlington sixth, but both runners were left stranded.

Taylor Mayo connected again with one out in the seventh, padding Evangel's lead to 5-3.

Ellie DuBois' solo shot to center with one out in the second staked the visiting Lady Eagles to a 1-0 second inning lead.

Rebekah Wood walked on four pitches to start the home half of the second, moved into scoring position on a passed ball and crossed home with the equalizer on Lyon's base hit to center.

Sterlington rolled a pair in the third to go ahead 3-1.

Jada Smith led off with an infield single and moved up two bags on an error and Sylvestri's ground out. K.B. Briley walked with two outs and stole second before Wood plated both runners with a base hit to center.

DuBois started and finished in the circle to gain the win, working a total of 5.2 innings. Tally Turnbow pitched 1.1 innings in middle relief.

Evangel (17-5) out-hit the Lady Panthers 7-6. Unleashing the heavy artillery, Taylor Mayo went 3-for-4 with a pair of longballs and scored three times. DuBois went deep, Turnbow doubled and Cooper and Bayley Mayo singled.

Lyon doubled and singled for the Lady Panthers (18-4), who dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season. Tanner Wilson, Sylvestri, Wood and Smith added base hits.

Tanner Wilson, who replaced Sylvestri in the circle, was the pitcher of record for the Lady Panthers.

Sterlington is back in action Tuesday at Panther Park against Mangham for a 5 p.m. varsity/JV double header.
