Prairie View 8, River Oaks 4 (2nd game)

MONROE — Prairie View scored three runs in each of the final two innings to complete a sweep of Monday's MAIS District 5-2A double header with an 8-4 triumph over River Oaks.

With the Spartans (10-2, 2-0) trailing 4-2 entering the top of the sixth, Blake Ray reached on a leadoff error, advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch and crossed home on Hayes Crockett's one-out RBI single. Crockett stole second, setting the stage for Mason Rogers' game-tying base hit. Gage Riles then drew a free pass and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Tyler Peters' squeeze bunt drove in Rogers to put the Spartans in front 5-4.

On to the seventh, Connor Ouellette walked and Layton Rainbolt singled before Tanner Caldwell raced all the way to third on an error. Blake Ray's RBI single concluded the scoring.

Jacob Farrar pitched around a two-out error in the bottom of the seventh to seal the result.

Prairie View went up 1-0 in the first when Caldwell walked, pilfered second and third and completed the circuit on Ray's RBI groundout.

River Oaks took a 2-1 lead with single markers in its first two at bats.

Cole Ramer and Sam Conti laced back-to-back singles in the first. Ramer stole third and scored on an error to even the board at 1-1.

Dorsey opened the second with a base hit, moved into scoring position on Brad Black's sacrifice bunt, swiped third and scurried home with the go-ahead run as Cody Tindall was safe on an error.

Prairie View leveled the game at 2-2 in the third when Peters made his way to first on an error, stole second, took third on a passed ball and tagged up on Rainbolt's sacrifice fly to center field.

It remained 2-2 until the Mustangs picked up two in the fifth on three walks and an error.

Farrar, the Spartans' third pitcher, labored 2.2 scoreless innings for the win. He allowed one hit and rang up three without walking a batter. Ray started out on the mound with Rogers in middle relief.

Identical to the final score, the Spartans held an 8-4 edge in hits. All 12 hits were singles. Rainbolt and Ray both poked a pair of singles with base hits from Caldwell, Crockett, Rogers and Peters.

Ramer, Conti, Smith and Black singled for the Mustangs.

Conti absorbed the loss on the mound for River Oaks. Smith drew the starting assignment, striking out nine, walking two and striking out nine.
