Sterlington 20, Jonesboro-Hodge 0
Davis Johnson went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBIs and Brooks Rushworth unleashed a grand slam as Sterlington cruised to a 20-0 victory over Jonesboro-Hodge at Panther Park on Saturday afternoon.
It was all or nothing for the Panthers, who struck for 10 in both the first and fourth innings around goose eggs in the second and third.
Johnson's three-run swat over the left field wall closed the scoring in the first.
Drew Huddleston, the second of three J-H pitchers, retired seven straight batters before running into trouble in the fourth.
Johnson doubled home a run and singled in another as 13 batters strolled to the box in the fourth. Rushworth's bases-loaded clout over the left field wall completed the scoring.
Adam Tubbs was the winner, with Trey Rugg working the third and fourth and Rushworth taking care of the fifth.
Carson Clowers went 4-for-4 with a double and scored four runs to set the tone for the Panthers (15-2) at the plate. Johnson homered, doubled and singled, Rushworth connected for the grand salami and Jarrett McDonald, Luke Denman and Reece Brooks singled.
Huddleston doubled about a foot inside the left field line with one out in the first for the Tigers' (6-7) lone hit.
Sterlington opens District 2-3A this week with home tilts against Carroll (Tuesday) and Madison Parish (Thursday). First pitch for both games is scheduled for 4 p.m.
