Sterlington 5, Castor 1

JONESBORO — Stringing together four consecutive two-out hits, Sterlington snapped a 1-all tie with a four-run sixth to best Castor 5-1 Saturday morning in the Caroline Menzina Memorial (Cedar Creek) Softball Tournament at the Jackson Parish Sports Complex.

Marcy Moss slugged a leadoff home run over the center field fence to tie the game in the top of the sixth.

Sterlington responded emphatically in the home half of the stanza.

Tanner Wilson tripled to deep center field with one down.

One out later, K.B. Briley walked and Rebekah Wood singled home the go-ahead run. Catherine Trichell followed with another RBI single, and Carson Lyon drove in two more with a base hit to left as the Lady Panthers went ahead 5-1.

Tanner Wilson pitched around a two-out walk to Allie Carole in the seventh before fielding a game-ending groundout back to the circle.

Sterlington struck for a run in the bottom of the first as Briley singled with two away and scurried home on Wood's base hit to right field.

It remained 1-0 until Moss went deep to start the sixth.

Tanner Wilson pitched 2.1 one-hit innings to log the win in relief of starter Emarie Adams, who held the Lady Tigers to three hits over 4.2 scoreless innings.

Sterlington (18-2) out-hit the Lady Tigers from Bienville Parish 8-4. Wood and Lyon both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Tanner Wilson tripled and Briley, Trichell and Parnell singled.

Moss homered, Kassidy Giddens and Carole doubled and Kelsey Giddens singled for Castor.

Kassidy Giddens went the distance in the circle for the Lady Tigers (8-5).
