D'Arbonne Woods 16, Bastrop 2

Alexis Phelps went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to back the three-hit pitching of Tanner White as D'Arbonne Woods Charter opened the season with a 16-2 win at Bastrop on Monday afternoon.

DWCS struck for two unearned runs in the top of the first on a pair of mishandled third strikes, an error and White's RBI groundout.

Bastrop cut the lead in half in its first turn at the plate. Back-to-back, one-out walks by Makayla Dunn and Jaylon Marshall led to Alias Harris' RBI groundout.

After a scoreless second, the Wolverines built the margin to 6-1 with one in the third and three in the fourth.

In the third, Phelps beat out a bunt single, scampered to third on a throwing error and continued home on Tiffani Harrell's RBI groundout.

With two outs and the bases empty in the fourth, Lexi Rosson singled to right and completed the circuit on Avery Parrott's double to straight-away center field. Next up, Phelps' dribbler in front of the plate went for a base hit. Parrott scored on a wild pitch and Avery Hayes, courtesy running for Phelps, crossed home on a passed ball, bringing the score to 6-1.

Marshall smoked a leadoff double to left in the Bastrop fourth and Harris followed with an RBI single to center as the Lady Rams closed within 6-2.

DWCS upped the margin to 7-2 in the fifth on Carly McCrary's RBI double to right-center before settling matters with a nine-run sixth.

White struck out four and walked two in the six-inning complete game victory.

Phelps led the Wolverines at the plate with four singles. Parrott tripled, doubled, singled, drove in two and scored three. Harrell doubled high off the left fence and singled while collecting two RBIs. Rounding out the 12-hit attack were Bri Thomas with a two-run double, McCrary with an RBI double and Rosson with a base hit.

Hitting for the Lady Rams (1-3) were Marshall with a double and Harris and Jordan Shipman with base knocks.

Thomas, the Wolverines' center fielder, and Marshall, the Lady Rams' left fielder, made the game's outstanding defensive catches.
