Glenbrook 13, Prairie View 11 (2nd game)

Down to its final out, Glenbrook exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh to overtake Prairie View 13-11 in the second game of Friday night's double header.

Combined with a 3-2 win over the Spartans Monday night in Minden, the victory enabled the Apaches to win the MAIS District 6-2A series 2-1. Prairie View won Friday's opener 11-3. With both teams running thin on pitching, Friday's nightcap proved to be a stereotypical Game 3.

Prairie View carried a 9-7 lead into the pivotal seventh.

Brandon Merritt led off with a single to left and stole second, bringing the tying run to the plate. Two batters later, the Spartans were one pitch away. However, the final out would be hard to come by as the Apaches rattled off six straight two-out hits.

Cade Clemons, representing the top of the batting order, doubled Merritt across. Cameron Barnett followed with a double to center, sending Clemons home with the tying run. Consecutive singles by Seth Gaithier, Nick Mourad, Parker Christy and Mason Hood staked Glenbrook to a 13-9 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

Prairie View mounted a two-out rally of its own in the seventh after loading the bases without swinging the bat. With two outs and the bases empty, Dalton Daniel took a pitch for the team, and Connor Ouellette and Andrew Janes walked. Back to the top of the order, Layton Rainbolt went the opposite way for a two-run single to right, closing the gap to 13-11 and placing the tying run aboard.

Barnett, Glenbrook's catcher, then threw out a base stealer for the fourth time in the game to seal the result.

Prairie View opened up a 6-1 lead after three innings with the help of Auston Smith's two-run home circuit clout.

Glenbrook climbed back within striking distance behind a four-run fifth and eventually tied the game at 7-7 with two more in the sixth.

Prairie View regained the lead, 9-7, in the home half of the sixth on Tanner Caldwell's two-run single.

Glenbrook out-hit the Spartans 15-14. Clemons went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. Mourad, Christy, Hood and Merritt supplied two singles apiece, Barnett doubled and Gauthier, Peyton Wells and Jonathan Parkerson singled.

Rainbolt went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Caldwell drove in two runs with a double and a single for the Spartans. Blake Ray and Dalton Daniel chipped in two singles apiece, Smith homered, Hunter Herring tripled and Hayes Crockett, Ouellette and Jacob Fortner singled.

Jonathan Parkerson, who followed Hood and Clemons to the mound, picked up the win on the bump for the Apaches (6-7, 2-1).

Caldwell went the distance in defeat for the Spartans (11-2, 1-2).

Prairie View travels to Tallulah for the opener of a three-game series Tuesday night. Starting time for the JV/varsity double header is 4 p.m. The series concludes with a 4 p.m. double header Friday at Prairie View.
