More than 6 million young people across the country today will celebrate National 4-H Week, an annual celebration of 4-H during the first full week of October. This year National 4-H week is October 7th-13th. During National 4-H Week, 4-H will showcase the great things that 4-H offers young people and highlights the incredible 4-H youth in the community who work each day to make a positive impact on the community. This week in Morehouse Parish 4-H we wanted to showcase some of our dedicated members. They have all written their 4-H Story and included major milestones in their life and the 4-H Program in our parish, region, and our state. Here are some of those stories!

Summer Speights, Beekman Charter School

This is my first year doing 4-H. I decided to enter the dog show with my dog Chloe. I was excited , nervous and scared all at the same time not knowing how it was going to go. I entered my dog Chloe in 3 categories Prettiest, Most unusual (for her wings like makeup around her eyes) and Best tricks. She won 3rd place for prettiest , 1st place for most unusual and 1st place for Best tricks. I was one Super excited 4-H’er . I’m already making plans for next year’s dog show. I can’t wait . Lol I’m ready to see what else is in store for me this year in 4-H. Hello 4-H 2018-2019!

Emery Bell Odom, Beekman Charter School

This is my third year in 4-H. I have participated in many fun activities and events from cooking to demonstration day to summer camp. Last year I got to lead my club as president!

I attended 4-H summer camp the last two years. This weekend I attended Challenge Camp. I love the way you get to make friends that will last forever. I would love to go back this year, and one day become a counselor.

I have won many blue ribbons in cookery contest, demo-day, photo contest, and poster contests. I enjoy cooking the most. My friend, Maddy Bridges & I won 1st place in demonstration day as team two years in a row. My biggest award was winning 2nd place in the state for my beef poster. I won $100! I have the most wonderful 4-H Leader Mrs. Jennifer Moran and 4-H Agent Mrs. Denise Guyewski.

Eliza Joy Odom, Beekman Charter School

My name is Eliza Joy Odom. I am in 4th grade at Beekman Charter School. This is my first year in 4-H. I cannot wait to do all the fun activities. My first one will be the Ag Poster. I am going to draw some sweet potatoes and tell why they are important to our area. I’m looking forward to a great year in 4-H!
