The Morehouse Parish Police Jury approved new guidelines for the Solid Waste Disposal Department at the regular meeting held August 13.
These guidelines are for residential roadside garbage and trash collection for Morehouse Parish residences, which are classified as being an occupied dwelling with water and electric connections and a 911 address and are as follows:
All household garbage must be placed in a tightly sealed garbage bag or container. There is a limit of five 32-gallon containers not to exceed 60 pounds in weight per container and/or 10 bags of leaves or grass clippings tightly sealed not to exceed 35 pounds in weight.
Bundled limbs should not exceed three feet in length and 35 pounds in weight.
There is a limit of two bulk items, which shall not exceed 75 pounds per item
Containers, bags and bulk items must be placed at the curbside the night before scheduled pick-up
Unacceptable items include:
Appliances (Residents of Morehouse Parish can take these items at no charge to the Limited Waste Site located at the Morehouse Parish Highway Department, 3230 New Monroe Road)
Batteries and motor oil
Gas Tanks, butane tanks, drums, or any other container or cylinder that are not smashed, crushed or flattened
Hazardous/Toxic wastes such at paint thinners, turpentine, anti-freeze, solvent, oil-based paint, etc.
Non-hazardous liquid wastes including: liquids sealed in containers, paints, thinners, chemicals, oils or grease, etc. Any free-flowing liquids of this nature should be dried or absorbed so that they are not free flowing at the time of collection
Large quantities of household goods, including move in/outs and evictions
Any other item(s) deemed by Morehouse Parish Solid Waste to be uncollectible
All contractors such as roofing, tree service, construction, remodeling, home repair, landscaping, demolition or removal contractors, etc. performing work or services must remove all debris and/or material resulting from their work. Any debris resulting from these services should not be placed at the curbside and is not the responsibility of the Parish Solid Waste Disposal Department and will be the responsibility of t e contractor and/or property owner.
Anyone engaging in self home repair and/or remodeling, heavy tree and brush removal, construction and/or demolition activities and any other activities which generate excessive volumes of debris and waste materials will be the responsibility of the property owner. Any debris resulting from these services should not be placed at the curbside and is not the responsibility of the Parish Solid Waste Disposal Department.
