The Bastrop Daily Enterprise has held many contests to give back to its readers, especially kids, and one such contest, a chance to win circus tickets, was held in July and the prizes were given this week on July 15 and 16 in 1975.

For the contest, children were encouraged to color a picture of T. J. Tatters the famous circus clown and submit their work to the Enterprise. All of the works were judged, and the winner received four tickets for their family to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus held in Monroe that July. The winning drawings were also sent to T.J.Tatters himself.

There were five categories of winners divided by ages: three and four, five and six, seven and eight, nine and ten and eleven and twelve. Three winners were selected from each category. The coloring page was printed in the enterprise on three different days, and the deadline was July 14.

Local children were very enthusiastic about the contest, and pictures came flooding in. The winners of the contest, announced later in the paper, were Todd Buffington, Curtis Covington, Kristy Harrell, Punkin Thomas, Michael Duncan, Tommy Garrett, LaSandra Johnson, Heath Calhoon, Donna Johnson, Carole Wright, Ted Barfield, Susie Sims, Ricky Johnson, Margaret Reynolds and Becky Baker. Winners had two days – July 15 and 16 – to pick up their tickets.

The local children enjoyed the contest, and the Enterprise was happy to provide them with something fun and interesting to do in the summer months.
