The Morehouse Parish Police Jury approved a request from Bastrop Chamber of Commerce President Dorothy Ford to form a Save Our Parish Roads Committee at their monthly meeting on Monday.

Ford said she and other community members wanted to start a Save Our Parish Roads Committee in order to help the both the Morehouse Parish Police Jury, as well as the community.

"With your blessing, the road committee will look at where we can go to work on revenue to repair the roads," Ford said. "We are doing this to help the police jury to help our roads."

Morehouse Parish Police Jury President Terry Matthews said since the board appoints the committee, the committee must then report to the police jury before taking any action regarding the roads.

Ford said the committee's focus would be to help the police jury to find solutions to some of the revenue problems that are halting progress on road repairs.

"A lot of this is about educating the community," Ford said.

Ford said the committee will also likely develop subcommittees to focus on certain issues.

Also at the meeting, the police jury approved of a request from a judge to upgrade the courtroom recording system so trials can be recorded remotely in Ouachita Parish. The estimated cost of this is $80,000, however, the courts have the funds to cover it, upon the board's approval.

The application for a third May Madness festival to be held May 4, 2019 was also approved at the meeting.
