The NELA 4-H Regional Leader Board recently took a trip to Memphis, Tenn. While there, they participated in a Nocturnal Adventure Zoo Snooze at the Memphis Zoo and took chemo care kits to St. Jude’s. The trip was part of their efforts this year with the 4-H state service learning initiative of cancer awareness. Members asked the participating parishes to donate items to include in the chemo care kits along with monetary donations. They were able to deliver 85 kits and over $600 to St. Jude’s. The members also cut and fringed fleece scarves while on the on the trip for the patients. The members from Morehouse Parish that attended were Christianna Releford and Bailey Willis. Both have been active members of the Regional Leader Board for the past year.
Morehouse Parish 4-H is also collecting items for Chemo Care Kits so that the kits can be delivered in June or July to St. Jude’s. Items needed include: warm and comfy clothing (headwear, blankets, socks or slippers), icy cool towels, gentle skin moisturizers and soaps, lip balm, eye mask, ear plugs, neck pillow, pajamas or comfortable loungewear, unscented wet wipes and hand sanitizers, silk or fleece pillowcase, magazines or coloring books, iTunes gift card, journal, and ear buds or head phones.
