A traffic accident Tuesday afternoon backed up traffic on U.S. 165 South while emergency officials extricated an injured and trapped driver and then used a helicopter to fly him to Alexandria for medical treatment. According to the Louisiana State Police, the crash happened at approximately 3:50 Tuesday afternoon.  A 2003 Chevrolet was traveling north on 165 at a high rate of speed and tried to pass a vehicle.  As the Chevy was passing another 2016 Chevrolet vehicle, the 2003 Chevrolet sideswiped the vehicle, ran off the road and struck several trees.  The driver of the 2003 Chevrolet, 36-year old-Edward Franklin, was injured and transported to Alexandria via Air Med due to a non-life threatening head injury.  The other party involved was not injured in the crash. Shown here an Air Med Air Ambulance has landed in the southbound lanes of U.S. 165 South and emergency officials along with the helicopter crew are loading Franklin into the helicopter to be evacuated to Alexandria.
