Two Morehouse Parish teachers were recently recognized as KNOE’s Golden Apple Teacher of the Week.

   In November, Lenelle Edmonds, a teacher at Morehouse Elementary School was recognized by KNOE as the Banner Ford of Golden Apple Teacher of the Week. She was nominated by two of her students, Addison and Aiden Nash, who are twins. According to her KNOE interview, she has been teaching for 14 years and was honored to have been selected.

   She was recognized at the Thursday, December third, School Board meeting and presented a certificate. It was noted that she is the third teacher from Morehouse Elementary School to be nominated for the award. She said of winning the award in her KNOE interview, “It was a feeling like no other. This feels awesome.” She stated that she started as a substitute teacher but decided to go back and get her degree after which she started teaching.

   Jana Guyewski Lautigar was named Banner Ford Golden Apple Teacher of the Week on January 7. According to her KNOE interview she is a teacher at Morehouse Magnet School and was nominated by her student Cason Jones. Guyewski Lautigar stated of winning the award that she felt “Honored, overwhelmed, and encouraged.” She explained in her KNOE interview, “I teach here because this is where I went to school and its giving back to the community. These kids are the future. They are the only thing that can make our community and our world a little bit better place.”

   The Morehouse Parish School District shared the two teachers’ KNOE interviews on Facebook and congratulated the teachers on their achievement.
