Sterlington 53, Winnfield 28

CADEVILLE — Kaela Mullins and Michaela Waters combined for 30 points as the Sterlington Lady Panthers extended their season-best winning streak to four games with a 53-28 triumph over Winnfield in West Ouachita Tournament play Friday night.

With Mullins scoring seven of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter, the Lady Panthers jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter lead. Mullins and Waters scored five points apiece in the second frame as Sterlington stretched its advantage to 35-15 at halftime.

Mullins added five more points and Ashleigh Davis connected from 3-point range to help Sterlington increase its margin to 48-23 going into the final quarter.

Waters tallied 13 points to join Mullins in double figures as the Lady Panthers (7-6) rose above the .500 mark. Davis pitched in eight with a pair of 3s, Jayla Stewart had seven, McKenzie Gray four, Jayme Broadway three and Bri Logan one. Gray grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds while Mullins pulled eight.

Amaya McClain was high scorer for the Lady Tigers (4-8) with nine, followed by Mikerra Evans with eight, D'Airrieah Starks with four, Bria Pikes, Jade Briggs and Alexis Pottain with two apiece and Kassidy Roberson with one.

Both teams were stone cold from the free throw line as the Lady Panthers were 11-for-32 (34.4 percent) and the Lady Tigers went 9-of-24 (37.5 percent).

Closing out tournament play Saturday, the Lady Panthers are paired against Oak Grove (4-3) at 2 p.m.
