An arrest has been made in the 2006 murder case of Mattie Williams of Collinston.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs announced that thanks to new evidence uncovered in the case, Renwick Johnson, 6475 Harper Lane, Collinston, was picked up Monday evening and charged with home invasion and obstruction of justice.

"We have been re-interviewing witnesses and following up on information learned in the past several days," Tubbs said. "Johnson was a suspect in this case originally and new developments led to this arrest."

Williams was reported missing on August 28, 2006, when a family member could not get in touch with her and called the MPSO. A deputy was dispatched to her home in Collinston and noticed what appeared to be blood on the outside of the residence. When he could not get Williams to answer the door, investigators where called and a search of the home showed where there had been a struggle but Williams was not located.

Sheriff's deputies as well as Collinston residents began a search for Williams, whose body was located the next day in a wooded area approximately four miles from her home.

In June, 2009, in an effort to gain new information, deputies handed out flyers and spoke to Collinston residents about the case. Some leads where discovered but, nothing panned out, according to Tubbs.

The investigation is continuing.

Johnson is in the Morehouse Parish jail and will go before a judge this morning for a bond hearing.
