State Fire Marshal Butch Browning announced a statewide burn ban due to the extremely dry conditions in Louisiana Tuesday afternoon.
He issued the cease and desist order after noon June 23 for all private burning pursuant to his authority under R.S. 40:1563.
Private burning shall only be allowed by permission of a local fire department or local government.
This burn ban will stay in effect until further notice.
Bastrop Fire Chief Eric Montgomery also announced a burn ban “because of the extreme drought” for fire district 2.
“It’s just too dry right now,” he said.
