In order to attract the maximum number of entries, this year’s Youth Journalism Contest deadline has been extended until July 31, 2009.
Sponsored jointly by the Louisiana Outdoor Writer’s Association and the Advocate Educational Services, this essay and photography contest is designed to stimulate an interest in outdoor journalism and photography in Louisiana youngsters.
The Essay category requirements include an original, unpublished essay about personal experience pertaining to any outdoor related experience. Minimum length is 300 words; maximum is 1000. The essay must be typed, double-spaced and only on one side of each sheet of paper.
Essay prizes will be awarded for two separate age groups; senior (14-18 years of age) and junior (age 13 and younger).
In the Photography category, an original, unpublished photo, in either color or black and white may be submitted. Format may be 4X6; 5X7 or 8X10 center mounted on an 8X10 poster or mounting board. Any youngster under age 18 is eligible to enter.
At the top of the first page of articles or on back of the mounting board for photos, the following is required: name, age, school, home address and telephone number.
Entries must be submitted no later than July 31, 2009 to The Advocate Ed. Services/LOWA, P.O. Box 588, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. All winners will be awarded cash prizes and certificates and winners and chaperones will be honored at the annual LOWA Fall Conference.
