Rogers Loche has been selected as the Northwestern State Demons’ defensive captain for Saturday night’s season opener at Houston. Game time is 6 p.m.
Loche, a senior from Bastrop, will make his first collegiate start against the Cougars.
NSU’s Web site, nsudemons.com, reports that Loche’s “helmet-cracking hits have been a staple of preseason camp.”
NSU first-year head coach Bradley Dale Peveto also announced that quarterback John Hundley and Isaiah Greenhouse will serve as offensive and special teams captains, respectively.
Loche and the Purple Swarm defense face a daunting task, taking on Houston’s prolific offense led by 2008 national total offense leader Case Keenum at quarterback. Keenum averaged 403 total yards per game last season.
Seeing action in all 12 games last season, Loche recorded 38 tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss. A member of the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, he is majoring in psychology with emphasis on addiction studies.

SITE MOVED: The kenramsey.com Web site has moved. To view the site at its new location, go to coachesaid.com and click on Louisiana.
Kenneth Ramsey of West Monroe, who founded the high school sports site in 1997, insists that the only changes will be for the better.
“I'll be there every day just like I have been here for the past 12 football seasons. I'll continue doing all the things i have done, plus we'll have unlimited power, unlimited space, and a team of professional people to build an enormous site plan for us,” Ramsey wrote on the Web site. “Coaches aid.com has absolutely said that they want me to continue to operate the site as I have always done. Please understand this: Ken Ramsey did not sell the kenramsey.com site. Ok?
“kenramsey.com is moving our files to another server like I have done many times before. The look is different this time. All we're going to lose is our old, outdated, appearance.”
On a personal note, I would venture to say that Kenneth’s Web site has been my most valuable resource for covering high school sports over the past decade.

CHARTING LSU: True freshmen Rueben Randle and Josh Downs are both expected to be on the traveling squad when LSU opens its season on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. at Washington.
Randle, in fact, could be in the starting lineup as part of the wide receiver rotation along with Brandon LaFell, Terrance Tolliver, Chris Mitchell, Chris Tolliver and R.J. Jackson.
“Rueben Randle is constantly getting better,” LSU head coach Les Miles said. “Learning all the ends and outs is not something that you can’t accomplish in a short time of work, but he is doing well and will certainly get some snaps.”
Downs is listed as a second-team defensive tackle behind Al Woods.
