LSU’s well-documented clock mismanagement on its final drive overshadowed a big game by Rueben Randle on Saturday afternoon in Oxford, Miss.
Making his second collegiate start, Randle caught the first two touchdown passes of his college career against Ole Miss.
Randle’s first TD catch — from 17 yards out — drew the Tigers within 14-6 late in the first quarter.
With 1:17 remaining in the game, Randle beat Ole Miss cornerback and fellow former Bastrop Ram Marshay Green for a 25-yard score.
Green, however, had the last laugh as Ole Miss stopped the 2-point conversion and held on for a 25-23 victory.
Green totaled five tackles and broke up a pass in the contest to close out his career 2-2 against the Tigers.
Another former Ram, LSU defensive tackle Josh Downs, missed the game with an ankle injury.
A look at how some more former Rams performed last week:
DEDDRICK JONES had three tackles in Southern Mississippi’s 44-34 win over Tulsa.
The Golden Eagles (7-4, 5-2) visit East Carolina on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the Conference-USA championship game.
TRAY HARDAWAY was in on five tackles, including a stop in the backfield, as New Mexico claimed its first victory of the season with a 29-27 triumph over Colorado State.
The Lobos close out the season at fourth-ranked TCU on Saturday.
ROGERS LOCHE had six tackles, intercepted a pass and blocked an extra point in the final game of his college career, but his efforts weren’t enough to get Northwestern State into the win column. Saturday’s 19-10 loss to Stephen F. Austin closed out a winless season for the Demons.
Loche was second on the team with 92 tackles, along with four tackles for loss, an interception, two pass breakups, six quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.
TAI ALFORD registered a season-best five tackles in Southeastern Louisiana’s 45-30 season-ending loss to Nicholls State on Thursday evening.
Seeing action in all 11 games as a true freshman, “Speedy” recorded 14 tackles for the Lions (6-5, 4-3 Southland Conference).
STANLEY MOORE has completed his courses at North Carolina Tech Preparatory Christian Academy and is eligible to sign in February.
Moore, a wide receiver, chose to take the prep school route in order to have four years of college eligibility.
In 2008, Moore caught 52 passes for 953 yards (18.3 yards per catch) and 11 touchdowns en route to earning All-State accolades.
