Bastrop, La. -

Cameron Milliren bailed Morehouse out of a jam in the top of the fifth and Dakota Hawkins shellacked a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth as the host team bested Concordia Parish 10-4 in a Dixie Pre-Majors District 5 Tournament elimination game on Tuesday night.

Franklin Parish, which defeated Morehouse 5-3 on Saturday, can wrap up the tournament with another victory over the host squad Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Baron Ballpark. Should Morehouse win, a deciding game would be played on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s game was no masterpiece. Morehouse mustered only three hits, but was the beneficiary of 10 bases on balls and four hit batsmen.

Morehouse missed an opportunity to break the game open as Concordia starter Jamal Davis plunked the first three batters to start the bottom of the first. James Letlow’s sacrifice fly chased Jeremy Eldridge home with the first run of the game, but Davis retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a groundout to minimize the damage.

Eldridge and Xavier Robinson were quite effective from the 1-2 spots in the batting order, going a collective 0-for-1 with four walks, being hit by three pitches and scoring three runs apiece. Both drew walks to start a three-run second and Letlow singled later in the frame. All three scored on wild pitches — Robinson hustled all the way home from second base — as Morehouse widened its lead to 4-0.

Morehouse stretched the gap to 7-0 with three in the fourth on two walks, a hit batsman and a base hit by Zach Harrell.

Concordia battled its way back into the game with four in the fifth with the help of four hits, including Nathan Bozeman’s two-run single, a pair of walks and a two-base throwing error. Robinson threw out a runner at the plate from right field for the second out, before Milliren was summoned from the bullpen with the bases loaded. The right-hander quelled the threat with a fly out to Eldridge in center field.

Morehouse pulled away with a three-spot in the sixth. Eldridge and Robinson drew back-to-back walks to set the table for Hawkins’ two-run triple to left-center. Hawkins then beat the throw to the plate on Letlow’s sac fly to shallow left-center to wrap up the scoring.

Pitching around a one-out walk to Corey Williams, Milliren retired the side with a pair of punchouts to finalize the issue.

Yancy May worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the win, before giving way to Harrell. Milliren earned the save in 2 1/3 frames of scoreless relief.

Hawkins went 1-for-2 with a three-bagger, Letlow was 1-for-2 with a pair of sac flies and Harrell singled in his only plate appearance for Morehouse. Bozeman, Williams, Javon Washington, Devin Barnes, Jay Jefferson and Alfred Banks singled for Concordia.
