Bastrop High defensive lineman D.D. Jones left Monday for Conway, S.C. where he will play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. The game will be televised live from Brooks Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Friday at 4 p.m. on Fox College Sports.
Jones, who will suit up for the West, is the only player from Louisiana slated to play in the game. Among other players of interest participating in the game include Tupelo (Miss.) quarterback Chris Garrett and Navasota (Texas) athlete Dexter Pratt, both of whom have verbally committed to LSU.
A Michigan pledge, the 6-4, 295-pound Jones earned first-team Class All-State honors and was the District 2-4A Defensive MVP as a senior. He recorded 70 tackles, 12 tackles for negative yardage and two sacks, while forcing three fumbles.
A pair of former Auburn teammates will square off as opposing head coaches in the O-D Bowl. Fred Beasley, who spent 10 years in the NFL as a fullback, will coach the West. Stephen Davis, a three-time Pro Bowl tailback, will guide the East.
“When I first met (Davis), I told him I was going to beat him out of his job,” said Beasley, recalling his collegiate days. “We both ended up starting, but I was a 210-pound fullback blocking for a 250-pound tailback.”
