Bastrop, La. -

Tidbits from Bastrop’s 47-14 victory over Carroll on Thursday night:

SENIOR NIGHT: The Rams’ senior football players were recognized prior to the game. Keeping with tradition, the seniors were introduced along with their parents and/or family members prior to the game.
“It was a special moment,” said senior wide receiver Preston Coleman, who was accompanied on the field by his parents, Patrick Sr. and Lisa Coleman, and little sister, Paris. “I remember, two years ago, it was my brother Patrick’s Senior Night. Tonight, it was mine.”
Coleman was joined in the ceremony by classmates Tai Alford, Keldrick Anderson, D’Andre Bradshaw, Josh Downs, Tyler Eldridge, Tim Fields, Deterrius Fraction, Hunter Freeland, Mikhail Garrett, Willie Graham, DeMaoria Harlston, Dwight Hawkins, Chris Hervey, D.D. Jones, Dontavious Moore, Goldmon Moore, Stanley Moore, Trey Owens, Kelvin Perry Jr., Travis Peterson, Rueben Randle, Trevor Rodgers, Jeremy Sorina, Jamario Tate, Eugene Tyler, Charleston Williams, Desmond Wilson, Romalis Whitmore, RaDarius Winston and manager Nathan Heintze.
“It meant a lot to be able to go on the field with my mother,” said D’Andre Bradshaw, who was joined on the field by Gwen Rabon.

SPIRIT GROUPS: Senior spirit group members recognized in the pregame ceremony included:
Cheerleaders — Hannah Brown, Erica Hill, Shunketta Norwood, La’Nece Smith and Brittany Wallace.
Starsteppers — Andromeda Brooks, Shylisa Brown, Heather Crumley, Cassie Daws, Brittney Green, Denitra Harris, U’Derriyus Hatfield, Shagaria McMillan, Danessa Nimmer, Jasmine Stokes and Amaris Taylor.

ROTC Drill Team — Rick Bostick, Nathia Johnson, Leo Oliver, Diana Randle, Rashaad Scott, Stephen Tubbs and Tanti Wonzo.

GUEST OF HONOR: Coach Joe Bradshaw, the father of BHS coach Brad Bradshaw, made the trip from Mississippi to attend his first game of the year. Glad to see you’re feeling better, Coach.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Bastrop had perhaps its best game of the year on special teams Thursday night.
Devin Richards was a perfect 2-for-2 on extra points and nailed a 23-yard field goal, while Desmond Wilson placed all seven of his kickoffs inside the 10, including a pair of touchbacks.
Kelvin Perry returned three punts for 52 yards. Rodriguez Moore and Jevante Watson returned kickoffs for 52 and 48 yards, respectively.
Carroll’s longest kickoff return was 17 yards.
But it wasn’t just the obvious that pleased coach Brad Bradshaw.
“We did a much better job of blocking the gunner on punt returns,” coach Bradshaw said. “That was a heck of a job by Keldrick Anderson.
“People don’t notice little things like that, but those things make a difference.”

DOWNS’ STATUS: All-State defensive tackle Josh Downs missed his second straight game with a tailbone injury. His status for Friday’s first-round playoff game remains uncertain.
“We’ll see how it goes next week,” coach Bradshaw said. “Hopefully, we’ll have him back.”
Backup offensive lineman Cole Harris also missed the Carroll game with a back injury.

HAMMER TIME: Sophomore Kennedy Jones registered a big hit for the second straight game, taking out a blocker on the kickoff coverage team. ... Junior linebacker Devin Richards unleashed a pad-cracking hit to stop a running play for a short game. ... Freshman defensive lineman Denzel Devall blew up a running play for a loss of four.

NEAR SCORE: Next to the play of the second team defense, the Rams’ biggest disappointment came when senior quarterback Eugene Tyler was stopped short of the goal line in the waning seconds.
On first-and-goal from the 4, Tyler lunged forward but was stopped inside the 1. Freshman running back Rodriguez Moore punched it in from there.
“I wish (Tyler) could have scored,” coach Bradshaw said.

TICKETS: Season ticket holders may purchase their normal seats for Friday’s first round playoff game from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the school lobby (not the fieldhouse). Unclaimed reserve seats will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday.

AROUND 4A: Tara and Archbishop Shaw joined Bastrop in clinching district championships on Thursday.
Tara (7-1, 4-0) trimmed McKinley (6-2, 3-1) 35-32 in overtime to win District 6.
Surging Archbishop Shaw downed Helen Cox 20-13 to claim the District 8 championship. Since starting the season 0-4, the Eagles have won five straight. Entering the week at No. 20 in the unofficial kenramsey.com power ratings, the Eagles (5-4, 5-0) may have earned homefield advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
O.P. Walker enhanced its chances of hosting a first round game by defeating John McDonogh 15-8. The Chargers (6-3, 2-2) began the week as a No. 19 seed.
