Sterlington 52, Carroll 26

MONROE—Scoring on all six first half possessions, Sterlington opened District 2-2A play with a 52-26 triumph over Carroll on Friday night at the Dawg Pound.

Taking charge from the opening whistle, the Panthers' defense forced the C-Dogs into two straight empty possessions.

Meanwhile, the visiting Panthers forged ahead 7-0 when Jordan Towsend's 1-yard run finished off a 10-play, 64-yard drive. Oren Keller, who was perfect on six extra point tries, knocked the PAT through.

After methodically pushing the ball downfield on its first series, the Panthers struck for a pair of big plays.

Hayes Crockett and Layton Rainbolt hooked up on touchdown passes of 67 and 69 yards as Sterlington expanded its lead to 21-0 with 9:26 to play in the half.

Carroll dented the board on its next series as Cedrick Woods fired a 27-yard TD pass to Jacoby Brown. Markee Hatfield's extra point drew the Bulldogs within 21-7.

Taking over at the 35 after the kickoff rolled out of bounds, Sterlington needed just 46 seconds to answer. Rainbolt's 34-yard pass to Brody Green set up Dallas Reagor's 31-yard touchdown jaunt as the lead swelled to 28-7 with 7:26 to go in the half.

Two snaps later, Woods' 52-yard keeper brought the Bulldogs within 28-14.

Reagor's 61-yard burst capped a four-play, 75-yard series on Sterlington's next possession.

Taking over at the Carroll 46 after a defensive stop, the Panthers were back in the endzone five plays later. Reagor did the honors from three yards out, enabling Sterlington to carry a 42-14 advantage into the pause.

Carroll climbed within 42-26 early in the fourth quarter as Woods fired an 18-yard TD pass to Jamar Forbes and tacked on a short touchdown run.

Sterlington settled the issue by driving 64 yards on five plays. Reagor's 3-yard run, his fourth touchdown of the night, widened the Panthers' lead to 49-26.

Jacob Green's 23-yard field with 5:35 remaining wrapped up the scoring.

Sterlington produced 476 yards of total offense — 334 rushing and 142 passing.

Eclipsing the 200-yard barrier for the third time this season, Reagor led the way with 206 yards on 14 carries. Reagor rushed for a season-high 220 yards and three touchdowns in 34-13 Week 4 victory over Loyola. Townsend (7-85-1) averaged a shade over 12 yards per carry and Zach Crain added 45 yards on six attempts.

Crockett completed 4-of-8 passes for 108 yards, including the two TD tosses to Rainbolt.

In addition to catching two TD passes for 91 yards, the versatile Rainbolt completed his only passing attempt and broke off a 28-yard punt return.

Woods had a hand in all four of the Bulldogs' touchdowns. The junior quarterback completed 13-of-21 passes for 184 yards and two TDs and rushed 11 times for 81 yards and a pair of scores.

Defensively, the Panthers (5-1, 1-0) received at least one tackle from 23 different players. Cole Jones set the standard with 10 tackles, followed by Tyler Kaffenberger with six and Seth Temple and Reid Handy with five apiece. Handy intercepted his first pass of the season and Jones, Michael Patten and Bryce Still contributed sacks.

Back from a stint on the injury list,junior free safety Reece Brooks contributed four tackles in his regular season debut.

Sterlington will play its homecoming game Friday night against Wossman.
