Franklin Academy 3, Prairie View 2

WINNSBORO — Hallie Herron's sacrifice fly chased home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Franklin Academy came from behind to edge Prairie View 3-2 Thursday in MAIS District 5-2A softball play.

Trailing 2-0, the Lady Cougars picked up an unearned run in the sixth when Herron singled and eventually scored as Maci Wall reached on a two-out error.

Karlee Keene opened the seventh with a base hit, took third on an error and crossed home with the tying run on Anna Elise Sartin's one-out fielder's choice. Alex Roberts followed with an infield single, setting up Herron's walkoff sac fly to right field.

Franklin won the first round matchup 15-2 in Bastrop, but this one would not be easy.

Elle Morgan doubled home Kayla Hawthorne, aboard on a two-out error, to give the Lady Spartans a 1-0 first-inning lead.

Prairie View doubled its lead when Morgan doubled home Hawthorne, who singled and stole second, again in the third.

Sartin went the distance for the win, allowing one earned run on eight hits. She struck out seven without issuing a walk.

Roberts and Herron had two singles apiece and Keene added a base hit for the Lady Cougars.

Morgan went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI doubles as the Lady Spartans out-hit FA 8-5. Hawthorne was 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bags and two runs scored, Madi Crymes supplied two singles and swiped a base, and Anna Grace White and Chloe Hobson singled.

Morgan was dealt the loss for the Lady Spartans (7-9, 2-3). Hawthorne started in the circle, allowing two hits and striking out four through four scoreless innings.

Prairie View JV 5, Franklin 4

Chloe Hobson went 2-for-2 and Anna Grace White knocked a two-run triple to pace Prairie View in the JV tilt.

Also hitting for the Lady Spartans (8-2) were Emma Goss with a double and Elle Morgan and Emilee Gross with base hits.

Hitting for the Lady Cougars were Courtlynn Havard (double and single), Natalie Roberts (double) and Brooke Wall (single).

Avery Wellbrink was the winning pitcher while Avery McCain was dealt the loss.
