Prairie View 22, Claiborne Academy 20
HAYNESVILLE — Elle Morgan clubbed a pair of two-run doubles to highlight a 12-run seventh-inning outburst as Prairie View pulled out a 22-20 victory over Claiborne Academy on Thursday night.
Morgan finished the evening 4-for-4 with seven RBIs while helping the Lady Spartans wipe out a 15-10 sixth-inning deficit.
Prairie View paraded 18 batters to the box in the crucial top of the seventh.
Eight straight Lady Spartans made their way aboard safely before the first out was recorded.
Rachel Hankins led off with a double to left and Madi Crymes was hit by a pitch. Emma Goss singled home a run and Anna Grace White smashed a two-run double to bring the visitors within 15-13.
Kayla Hawthorne and Chloe Halterman both reached on fielder's choices to load the bases.
Morgan, the Lady Spartans' cleanup batter, followed with a game-tying two-run double to right. With still nobody out, Hannah Billings singled home Halterman with the go-ahead run.
Back to where it all started, Hankins was hit by a pitch with one away and Crymes and Goss drew consecutive walks to force Morgan across.
White's RBI single, Hawthorne's two-run single and Morgan's two-run double expanded the margin to 22-15 going into the final half-inning.
As the final score would indicate, no lead was safe in this game.
Katelyn Butler walked to start the Claiborne fifth, Riley Robinson was safe on an error, Emma Shepherd and Alee Spigener singled and Mia Butler launched a three-run home run over the center field fence. Five batters, five runs, and the Lady Rebels had narrowed the gap to 22-20.
Evie Brasher singled with one away and Emily Teutsch walked to bring the winning run to the plate with two away. Billings then fielded a ground ball and stepped on the third base bag for the final out.
It was a back-and-forth from the outset.
Claiborne jumped out to a 5-1 second-inning lead.
Prairie View countered with two in the third and six in the fourth. Morgan drove in her first run with a sacrifice fly in the third and doubled home two more as the Lady Spartans went up 9-6 in the fourth.
Claiborne regained the upper hand, 13-10, with seven in the fifth and plated two more in the sixth.
Prairie View out-hit the Lady Rebels 16-9. White went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, two singles, three RBIs and five runs scored. Morgan bopped three doubles and a single, Goss furnished three singles, Billings drove in three with a pair of singles, Hankins doubled and Crymes and Hawthorne singled.
Mia Butler carried Claiborne offensively with three hits and 10 RBIs, including the three-run bomb in the seventh and three-run triples in the first and fifth. Shepherd went 2-for-5 and scored four runs, and Katelyn Butler, Spigener, Brasher and Caroline Barfield singled.
Hankins worked the final two innings for the win in relief of Hawthorne and Morgan.
Shepherd was dealt the loss for the Lady Rebels.
Prairie View (4-6) returns to action at home Monday vs. River Oaks. Game times are 4 p.m. (JV) and 5:30 (varsity).

Allie Culpepper's two-run double capped a three-run third to lift Prairie View in the junior varsity tilt.
Culpepper went 2-for-2, Emma Goss doubled and Chloe Halterman and Elle Morgan singled.
Avery Wellbrink was the winning pitcher.
