Mississippi Gridiron has Prairie View ranked No. 1 in its first MAIS 8-man poll of the season.
It didn't take Prairie View long to reach the pinnacle of 8-man football.
Coming off of a 38-8 road victory over Wilkinson County Christian (Miss.) in its 8-man debut, the Spartans are ranked No. 1 in the first poll of the season. Prairie View bolted out to a 24-0 halftime lead and coasted to the victory Friday night in Woodville, Mississippi.
Austin Carroll rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and recorded a team-high 14 tackles to pace the Spartans.
Mississippi Gridiron (www.mississippigridiron.com) ranked three Division 3 schools in its top five poll. Prairie View is No. 1, followed by Manchester (Miss.), defending champion Briarfield, Prentiss Christian (Miss.) and Tallulah. All five schools won their season openers last week.
A total of 22 MAIS schools compete in 8-man.
Mississippi schools occupy the No. 1 spot in all four of the association's 11-man polls. Jackson Prep is No. 1 in Class 4A, Starkville is tops in 3A, Greenville St. Joseph's sits atop the 2A poll and Tunica is the top-ranked team in 1A.
Prairie View is matched against Franklin Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. in Winnsboro, before making its first home appearance vs. Tallulah on Friday, Aug. 31.
