OUACHITA RIVER — Joe Bob’s is the only launch open on the river at this time because of the drawdown. Crappie fishing has been fair around sunken tops on shiners and jigs. LAKE D’ARBONNE — Fishing in general has slowed. A few crappie are being caught fishing the deep sloughs. One day they bite fairly well; next day they don’t. Best colors for jigs have been bone white, yellow/orange, black/chartreuse. Bass have been best at night fishing lighted piers with crank baits and spinners. Daytime fishing has been best around shallow grass on topwater baits and plastic frogs. Bream are fair; catfishing is good on cold worms. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie fishing has been fair fishing shiners or jigs around deep tops. Some stripers are being caught at night around lighted piers on crank baits. Bass are off and on with best fishing being around lighted piers at night or along dark banks on soft plastics. CANEY LAKE — Hunter Freeman, West Monroe, landed a 9-pound bass fishing at night. Otherwise, bass fishing is best for school fish on topwater shad imitations. The crappie are slow to fair with a few caught around deep tops on shiners or jigs. Bluegills and chinquapins have been fair to good using worms or crickets. No report on catfish this week.
