Prairie View 17, Riverdale 2

Buoyed by a 10-run second inning, the Prairie View Lady Spartans opened their home schedule with a convincing 17-2 triumph over Riverdale on Monday afternoon.

Down 1-0, Prairie View went ahead to stay with three in the bottom of the first.

Batting leadoff, Anna Grace White walked on four pitches, stole second and held at third on Elle Morgan's one-out double to left. White and Morgan would both score on passed balls.

With two away and the bases empty, Kayla Hawthorne walked and made her way home on Rachel Hankins' double.

Riverdale closed the gap to 3-2 with a run in the top of the second before the Lady Spartans sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame. Madi Crymes' three-run double was the key hit of the marathon inning.

Prairie View added four more in the third before the mercy rule was applied.

Morgan, Hankins and Crymes doubled for the Lady Spartans with base hits by Chloe Halterman, Hawthorne, Allie Culpepper and Emma Goss.

Hankins (2-0) held the Lady Rebels to one hit for the win as Prairie View evened its record at 2-2.

Back in action Tuesday at home, the Lady Spartans are paired against Union Christian. Starting time for the JV/varsity double header is 4:30 p.m.
