Briarfield 5, Prairie View 0
RAYVILLE — Briarfield scored in every inning to back the four-hit pitching of Kelsie Travis in a 5-0 Riverfield Tournament victory over Prairie View on Saturday morning.
After the first two batters went down in order to start the game, Travis walked, Maddie Taylor was hit by a pitch and Anna Lee Tatum laced an RBI single to right to open the scoring.
Abigail Payne's two-out, two-run base hit to center stretched the margin to 3-0 in the third.
Briarfield added single runs in the third and fourth.
Prairie View put runners aboard in all four innings, but could not push a run across.
Rachel Hankins reached on a two-base throwing error and Chloe Hobson singled to right to place runners at first and third with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Briarfield right fielder Kiley Condrey then snagged a line drive for the second out and Travis preserved the shutout with a strikeout.
Travis fanned six without issuing a walk for the win.
Briarfield received base hits from Payne, Travis, Taylor, Tatum and Malin Batton, and Condrey squeezed a run across.
Chloe Halterman went 2-for-2 for the Lady Spartans (0-2) and Anna Grace White and Hobson provided base hits.
Kayla Hawthorne, who struck out four batters, was the pitcher of record for Prairie View.
Halterman (shortstop) threw out two runners at third base and another at home plate to lead the Lady Spartans defensively.
