USA Track & Field Southern Association Championships
The City of Bastrop Track Club brought home four gold medals from the USA Track & Field Southern Association Championships held last weekend in St. Francisville.
Olivia Bautista, Alyssa Dismuke and Mariah Heard all won events in the girls' division.
Bautista won the 1500-meter race walk for the 7-8 year-old age group.
Dismuke and Heard both competed in the 13-14 year-old bracket.
Dismuke won the shot put and placed runner-up in the javelin, while Heard captured the 100m hurdles.
Anijah Anthony was second in the 9-10 year-old 1500m race walk.
Finishing third were Amelya Yanez in the 9-10 year-old long jump, and Maylynn Romero in the 17-18 year-old shot put.
James Carter accounted for Bastrop's lone first-place finish on the boys side. Competing in the 17-18 year-old division, Carter won the shot put and finished third in the discus.
Rayshard Lynch, Semaj Girtmon, Cameron Jackson and JaQurius Lee were runner-up in the 4 x 100m relay for the 15-16 year-olds.
Adding second-place showings in the individual events were Alton McGee, 1500m run, 9-10 year-olds; Ollie Gipson, shot put, 15-16 year-olds; and Naijaul Hawkins, shot put, 17-18 year-olds.
Girtmon picked up third-place medals in the shot put and javelin.
Next up for the City of Bastrop Track Club is the USATF Southern Association Junior Olympics to be held June 21-24 at Carroll High School in Monroe.
