Bastrop 18, Rayville 8

Receiving contributions from all five of its upcoming graduates, Bastrop celebrated Senior Night with an 18-8 run-rule victory over Rayville, Monday evening at Baron Ballpark.

Left-hander Zedarrion Ridgell picked up the five-inning complete game win on the mound. Kenyon Beasley went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Danny Hill, Joe Brown and Ashton Lollie all chipped in at the plate as the Rams pounded out 14 hits.

Ridgell should have gotten out of the first with a 1-2-3 inning. Instead, the Hornets put up three runs on a mishandled third strike with two outs and the bases empty, an error, a walk and Rylan Adams' two-run single.

A.J. Fenceroy rang a one-hopper off the left field wall with one out and scored on Lollie's RBI single down the left field line to bring the Rams within 3-1 after one complete.

Rayville added a run in the fourth before the Rams sent 15 batters to the plate in a 10-run second. Bastrop had only three hits in the marathon at bat while benefitting from three errors, five hit batsmen and a walk. Beasley drove in three runs with a two-run single and an HBP with the bases loaded, and Brown doubled home a run as the Rams built an 11-4 lead.

Hill's RBI double in the third and Kiantre Robinson's bunt single, which followed a leadoff triple by J.T. Robinson in the fourth, extended the difference to 13-4. Rayville catcher Cody Stansbury made a spectacular, sliding catch in foul territory, facing the stands, for the first out of the fourth and chased down another popup in front of the Bastrop (first base) dugout to end the inning.

Rayville picked up four in the fifth on a leadoff single by Stansbury, two walks, two errors and Carter Coon's sacrifice fly to close within 13-8.

Bastrop put the game away with five in its half of the fifth.

Skeeter Brooks doubled with one away, Brown and J.T. Robinson singled and Kiantre Robinson reached on a two-base throwing error. One out later, Beasley singled, sprinted all the way to third on an errant throw and trucked home on a wild pitch to make the result official.

Ridgell gave up two earned runs on four hits — all singles — struck out three and walked four.

Beasley furnished three singles and scored twice from the leadoff slot to lead the Rams (7-13) offensively. J.T. Robinson tripled, singled and scored four runs, Hill ripped a pair of RBI doubles, Brooks and Brown doubled and singled, Fenceroy doubled and Lollie and Kiantre Robinson singled.

Stansbury had two of the Hornets' (4-15) four hits, and Adams and Andrew Tarver singled.

Bastrop wraps up regular season play this week with home games against Summerfield on Wednesday and Beekman on Friday. Both games get underway at 5 p.m.
