LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie fishing has been fair to good around shallow structure as well as submerged in deeper water off the banks. Jigs and shiners are picking up some fish. The bass are taking to the newly flooded land and hitting a variety of lures from spinners to topwaters to soft plastics. Bream are beginning to bed and are hitting crickets and worms. LAKE CLAIBORNE — With water running over the spillway creating current down stream, lots of fish of several varieties are being caught, including crappie, bream, catfish and stripers. Some stripers are hitting crank baits at night around the lights while bass are best fishing the shallows with a variety of lures. Bream are beginning to move shallow preparing to spawn and catfish are biting cold worms and live bream fished on set hooks around the lake. Bream are fair. CANEY LAKE — Some of the bass have already spawned but others are hanging around shallow beds. Anglers are cautioned to photograph, weigh and measure any big bass caught and return them to the lake, preferably in the area where they were caught. Crappie are suspended just off the banks while some are spawning in shallow water. Jigs and shiners are picking up some fish. Reports are that the chinquapins are starting to move onto bedding areas and have started to bite small crawfish and night crawlers. No report on catfish. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie continue to be off and on with some nice fish caught on shiners or jigs fished in the coves and just off the banks. Bass are best on spinners and soft plastics around brush. Bream are just starting to hit crickets. Catfishing is good on cut shad, worms and blood and cheese bait.
