West Monroe 4, Sterlington 0

WEST MONROE — Jonathan Snuggs struck out 11 over 6.2 innings and received last-out relief help from Carson Jones as West Monroe shutout Sterlington 4-0 Friday night.

Sterlington was unable to cash in on an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the second.

Luke Denman doubled with one away and moved to third on a wild pitch. A walk to Brock Risinger placed runners at the corners, but Snuggs fanned the next two batters to terminate the threat.

West Monroe went up 2-0 in its half of the second on two walks, an error and Mark Newman's two-out single.

Snuggs, meanwhile, would not allow another runner past first base until the seventh.

By then, the Rebels had doubled their lead to 4-0 on Kent Berry's RBI single in the third and Colton Anderson's RBI groundout in the sixth.

Three straight Panthers reached with two outs in the seventh. Seaver Sheets was safe on an error and Jarrett McDonald and Carson Clowers walked to load the bases. Jones then induced an inning-ending groundout.

Snuggs, a senior left-hander allowed only four hits (all singles) and Jones notched the save as the Rebels won their sixth straight game to even their record at 11-11.

Tom Biggs paced the Rebels at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. Newman went 2-for-3 and Berry, Ryan Johnson and Cayden Pierce singled.

McDonald went 2-for-3, Denman doubled and Braden Hough singled for the Panthers (17-3).

Adam Tubbs pitched admirably in defeat for Sterlington, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks over 5.1 innings. Denman came on to get the final two outs.
