Sterlington 9, Franklin Parish 0

Trey Rugg fired a one-hit shutout as Sterlington put away Franklin Parish 9-0 Tuesday night at Panther Park.

Sterlington took charge with four in the bottom of the fourth.

Seaver Sheets drew a leadoff walk and Jarrett McDonald singled to set up Carson Clowers' RBI base hit. Davis Johnson moved the runners over with a ground ball to the right side of the infield and Brooks Rushworth was hit by a pitch to fill the bases. Braden Hough walked to force in the second run of the inning, paving the way for Luke Denman's two-run double.

Meanwhile, Rugg had the Patriots flummoxed. The junior right-hander retired the first 10 batters before Carter Banks reached on a one-out error in the fourth.

Sterlington upped its lead to 5-0 in the fifth when Hough reached on a misplayed fly ball, Denman scorched his second double of the game and Reece Brooks followed with an RBI groundout.

Franklin's most serious threat occurred in the sixth when Connor McMurray walked and Austin Blocher singled to place runners at the corners with one out. Rugg then handled consecutive ground balls back to the mound to keep the shutout intact.

Sterlington put the game out of reach with four more in the sixth.

Clowers singled between walks to McDonald and Davis to load the bases. Brooks Rushworth then cranked a two-run double and Hough added an RBI single. Brooks' sacrifice fly brought the score to 9-0.

Rugg allowed only five base runners in the complete game performance. He struck out five, walked one and hit one.

Denman paced the Panthers (17-2) at the plate with a pair of doubles, Clowers went 2-for-4, Johnson and Rushworth doubled and McDonald and Hough singled.

Starter Cade Watson took the loss on the hill for the Patriots (11-5).

Sterlington wraps up a five-game homestand Thursday at 4 p.m. vs. Madison Parish before visiting West Monroe on Friday at 6 p.m.
