Prairie View 8, Tallulah 4
TALLULAH — Mason Rogers picked up the win on the mound and rapped a two-run single to spark a four-run fourth inning as Prairie View doubled Tallulah Academy 8-4 Friday afternoon.
Leading 1-0, the Spartans began to separate in the fourth.
Blake Ray reached on a two-base error, Jacob Farrar singled and Hayes Crockett walked to load the bases with nobody out. Austin Carroll's sacrifice fly to right field chased Ray home. Rogers then delivered a two-run single to right field. Connor Ouellette singled Rogers to third before Cody Murphy's squeeze bunt stretched the Spartans' lead to 5-0.
Tallulah dented the scoreboard for two in the fourth, but the Spartans were able to avoid the big inning.
Hager Fortenberry opened the frame with a double to center and continued home as Marsh Wood pulled in at second on an error. Carter Sullivan walked and Ty Schaufele singled Wood across, placing runners at the corners with still nobody out.
On in relief, Jacob Farrar minimized the damage. After recording the first out on a popup to catcher Layton Rainbolt, Farrar caught a bunt in the air to start an inning-ending double play.
Prairie View made it 6-2 in the fourth when Ray singled up the middle, swiped second and scored on an error.
Tallulah trimmed the deficit to 6-4 in the home half of the fourth, courtesy of Logan Tullis' two-run home run to straightaway center field. Joshua Collins, who was hit by a pitch, was aboard for Tullis' one-out blast.
Prairie View pushed two insurance runs across in the sixth.
Rogers walked and Ouellette and Murphy singled to fill the bases with one out. Rogers eventually scored on a passed ball and Ouellette crossed on Rainbolt's sac fly.
Rogers struck out six and walked one in three-plus innings for the win. Farrar and Ray finished up on the bump for the Spartans (7-2).
Prairie View received two singles apiece from Farrar and Ouellette and base hits from Rainbolt, Ray, Carroll, Rogers and Murphy.
Tullis homered and doubled, Fortenberry doubled and singled and Wood and Schaufele singled for the Trojans.
Collins was dealt the loss on the hill for Tallulah.
