Adams County Christian 14, Prairie View 4

NATCHEZ, Miss. — Caden Gillespie went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Adams County Christian jumped out to a big lead early on its way to a 14-4 win over visiting Prairie View on Thursday afternoon.

Prairie View went up 1-0 in the top of the first when Tanner Caldwell drew a one-out free pass, motored to third on Blake Ray's base hit and stole home on the front end of a double steal.

ACCS responded with a four-spot in the home half of the first and never looked back.

Seven straight batters reached safely with one out. Josh Day, Jack Whitehead, Gage Dossett and Rhet McDonald linked together successive singles to put the Rebels on top 2-1. An error and a walk later, Devin Grey doubled home the final run of the inning.

Prairie View closed the gap to 4-2 in the second when walks by Hayes Crockett and Austin Carroll set up Cade Murphy's RBI single, leaving runners at the corners with only one away. ACCS then turned an inning-ending double play, and the Spartans never recovered.

Sending 10 batters to the box, the Rebels extended their lead to 9-2 in the second. RBI doubles by Day and Gillespie highlighted the five-run outburst.

Prairie View picked up two in the fifth to draw within 10-4, but ACCS answered with one in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Day allowed four runs on four hits (all singles) over five innings for the win. He struck out eight and walked four. Andrew Porter finished up with a scoreless sixth.

McDaniel led the Rebels' 12-hit attack with a pair of RBI doubles, Day and Gillespie doubled and singled, Dossett and McDonald singled twice, Grey doubled and Whitehead singled.

Murphy went 2-for-2 for the Spartans and Caldwell and Ray furnished base hits.

Ray was dealt the loss on the mound with Jacob Farrar and Caldwell in relief.

Prairie View (6-2) returns to action Friday with a 4 p.m. double header at Tallulah Academy.
