Sterlington 14, Cedar Creek 2
SIBLEY — Rapping out 13 hits, the Sterlington Panthers blitzed Cedar Creek 14-2 Saturday night in the finals of the Bistineau Tournament, hosted by Lakeside High School.
Sterlington also posted wins over North Webster (7-3) in Thursday's first round and Minden (16-9) in Friday's semifinals on its way to the tourney championship.
Saturday night's outcome wasn't in doubt for long as the Panthers (10-0) put up a three-spot in the bottom of the first and six in the second.
Jarrett McDonald drew a leadoff walk in the first, Carson Clowers singled and Davis Johnson advanced the runners with a groundout. Cleanup batter Brooks Rushworth followed with a two-run single. After Luke Denman reached via error, Braden Hough bunted Rushworth home with the third run of the inning.
Twelve Panthers took turns at the plate in the second. RBI singles by Hough, Kyle Elee and Seaver Sheets highlighted the outburst as Sterlington opened up a 9-0 gulf.
Cedar Creek scored both of its runs in the third.
Eli Brown and Parker King, both of whom singled, crossed home when Brooks Auger reached on a two-out error.
Sterlington got one of the runs back in the third on Rushworth's home run.
Stringing together five straight hits to start the inning, the Panthers wrapped up the scoring with four in the fourth.
Logan Rushing and Kyle Elee singled, setting up Sheets' second RBI base hit. Back to the top of the order, McDonald mashed a two-run triple and Clowers whacked a run-scoring single.
Trey Rugg went the distance in the five-inning contest, allowing two unearned runs on five hits (all singles) while striking out seven and walking one.
Rushworth homered, singled and drove in three runs and scored three more to fuel the Panthers' 11-hit offensive. McDonald went 2-for-2 with a triple, a single and three runs scored, Clowers, Elee and Sheets each accounted for two singles, Johnson doubled and Hough and Rushing singled.
Brown went 2-for-2 to pace the Cougars and King, Brooks Auger and Pearce Simmons singled.
